Have you ever wondered how to give back to your community? Maybe you want to teach your children the values of helping those that are less fortunate than them. In our area, there are some great organizations that you can work with- too many to list here! This is a list of a few that are local and have great volunteer programs no matter what area you feel strongly about supporting.

  1. Food for Others (foodforothers.org)

Food for Others distributes food to those in need in Northern Virginia. They will always take donated food items and you can volunteer as an individual, group, or even participate in a “day of service” at their office or warehouse location. Pick up or distribute food, pack boxes, or prepare supplemental lunches for school children in our community. Many ways to give back!

  1. The Lamb Center (thelambcenter.org)

At the Lamb Center, homeless residents of Fairfax County can find support in a faith-based setting. Services include laundry, hygiene, vocational assistance, meals, and medical support. You can donate items to the center or you can volunteer on-site to assist guests.

  1. Women Giving Back (https://womengivingback.net/)

This wonderful organization helps women and children by providing clothing and accessories. They have a large warehouse location that also operates as their store for those in need. Help sort clothes, stock racks, clean, and assist guests with their shopping. Other opportunities off-sire include placing phone calls, performing research, or data entry.

  1. Hope House NOVA (http://www.hopehousenova.org/)

This agency provides support and services with the hopes that pregnant mothers in crisis will choose life for their babies. Their organization provides a number of different services for expecting mothers at no charge. You can get involved by assisting with phone calls, sorting clothing, or completing paperwork for new clients.

  1. Main Street Child Development Center (http://www.mainstreetcdc.org/)

This amazing organization provides comprehensive early education programs for children in difficult financial situations. If you are skilled in computers, music, reading, other educational areas, you can volunteer to assist programs and help children learn and grow in our community. Monetary donations are also accepted.
