Our Can’t Miss Fall Fun for the DC Metro!

27 September 2017

Fall is a great time to find fun activities for the whole family. Here in the DC area, there are SO many places that offer great activities but a few make our top list.

Here are our top places you HAVE to go this Fall.

Cox Farm

Cox Farm is like a rite of passage for all NOVA families. Even before Fall comes they have a great farmers market to shop in July and August. The animals are super cute- goats, rabbits, chickens, and they even offer seasonal employment opportunities for teens! In September, they hold their Fall Festival. Their world-famous hayride, slides, fun tunnels, pumpkin patch, and other entertainment will have something for every member of your family to enjoy! Don’t forget to check out the “Fields of Fear” in October.

Stribling Orchard

Stribling Orchard is probably the best pick-your-own apple place closest to DC. The 30 acres of apple trees ensures that there are always some there for the pickin’ and that you will not have to compete for space with other pickers. There are 20 different kinds of apples grown on premises so regardless of whether you want them for eating, pies, jams, or sauce, there is something for everyone. During other months of the year, they offer PYO peaches and pumpkins also! The prices are reasonable and when you have picked your bushels, head right up the road to one of a few wineries to choose from in the vicinity! Makes for a great day!

Larriland Farms

There are few other places within driving distance that are as authentic as Larriland Farms. If you are looking for a place that goes beyond the traditional pumpkins and apples, check out Larriland Farms. In the fall, you can pick your own spinach, beets, squash, broccoli, turnips, and chard. Come a little earlier in the season and get their summer vegetables like cantaloupes, corn, eggplant, and cukes. Also, stop by the flower garden for cut-your-own bouquets. There is a pumpkin patch hayride for the family and even an “evening ride” where afterwards you have a campfire with storytelling!

Great Country Farms

This place has it all! Whether you’re looking for a quiet afternoon with the family or a place to hold a wedding, this farm can accommodate. They grow pumpkins of all different shapes, sizes, and textures so they will be sure to have something special for your Fall decorations! Unlike other farms, they have a dog picnic area so you won’t have to leave the family friend at home. Also check out their fishing pond, Pumpkin Jumping Pillow, and Gem Mine! Don’t forget to pencil in all the festivals they hold throughout the year and join them for a great time.

Burke Nursery’s Pumpkin Playground

If you are not looking to make a drive and want something a little more low key (and low cost), check out this Fall Festival at the Burke Nursery. Running for the month of October, this festival has swings, slides, tubes, and other physical activities for children and your admission price includes the spooky hayride and a small carving pumpkin. Additional activities are pony rides and a moon bounce. There is something for all ages and a food tent if you need a snack.
